The first polling stations have opened

A final result, which already includes the postal votes, is expected late in the evening.

Today, Sunday, Upper Austrians can cast their votes for the state, municipal and mayoral elections in 1,705 polling stations. However, 239 of them are not barrier-free. The shortest opening time is a polling station in a senior citizens’ home in Windischgarsten (Kirchdorf / Krems district), where you can only vote between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. The polling station in the Eggelsberg retirement home (Braunau district) is only open from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. More than half of all polling stations do not close until between 3 and 4 p.m. (a total of 924) and the majority (1,686) open by 8 a.m. at the latest.

Voters receive three ballot papers – one lavender-colored for the state parliament, one cream-white for the municipal council and one beige for the direct election of the mayor. Since this time preferential votes are given by ticking and not handwritten, the format is somewhat larger. For this reason and because of the high number of postal voters – around 200,000 voting cards were issued – the counting will probably take a little longer than in 2015. The final result is by no means expected before 10 p.m.
