Israel’s former President Reuven Rivlin and filmmaker Ken Burns have been honored for their commitment to Jewish culture. Angela Merkel also received the honor once.
Israel’s former President Reuven Rivlin and US documentary filmmaker Ken Burns have been honored for their services to Judaism by the World Jewish Congress (WJC) in New York.
Rivlin was awarded the Theodor Herzl Prize at the gala on Wednesday night, while Burns received the Teddy Kollek Prize for his commitment to Jewish culture.
The Teddy Kollek Prize was awarded for the first time in 2016, back then to actor Kirk Douglas, who died in 2020. The Theodor Herzl Prize, which has been awarded annually since 2012, has previously been awarded to UN Secretary General António Guterres, ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel and US President Joe Biden. The WJC has set itself the task of representing Jews not living in Israel.
