Union Armin Laschet made a mistake when he cast his vote in his hometown of Aachen. Everyone could see what the head of the CDU voted for – namely his own party. The voter must fold the ballot so “that his vote is not recognizable,” it says on the website of the Federal Returning Officer. But Laschet’s crosses were clearly visible. If the vote is recognizable, the electoral committee would have to reject the voter, it says on the election officer website. Laschet and his wife Susanne were in Aachen when they cast their votes. There, in the final spurt of the election campaign, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) did the advertising for him again yesterday. In the federal election, around 60.4 million eligible voters have until 6 p.m. (CEST) to cast their votes.
