Confirming media reports, her attorney stressed that basketball player Griner was trying to stay strong and adapt to her new environment. The 32-year-old was arrested at a Moscow airport in February for carrying cartridges for e-cigarettes with cannabis oil in her luggage. At the beginning of August, the two-time Olympic champion was sentenced to nine years in prison. The US government has so far tried in vain to extradite them. There has been speculation several times about a possible exchange of prisoners.
