The election result of the Graz municipal council election including postal votes is available: The CP won with 28.84 (plus 8.5 percentage points) ahead of the VP, which fell by 11.88 percentage points to 25.91 percent. Third came the Greens with 17.32 percent (plus 6.81 percentage points), followed by the FP with 10.61 percent (minus 5.25), the SP with 9.53 (minus 0.52) and NEOS with 5.42 percent (plus 1.48). The distribution of the seats in the city senate is KP 3, VP 2 and Grne and FP each one seat.
The SP did not make the longed-for leap back into the city senate, the CP took one city senate seat from the VP and thus has three, the VP only two. Grne and FP each have a seat in the city government.
KP and Grne had 24 out of 48 seats
With the counting of the postal vote, the SP also lost a mandate against the provisional result on Sunday, in favor of the Greens. In total, the CP now has 15 seats in the municipal council (plus 5 compared to the 2017 election), the VP lost 6 and now has 13, the Greens improved from 5 to 9 seats and the FP got 5 (minus 3). The SP lost one seat and now has four seats, NEOS improved from one to two seats. This means that KP and Grne would have a total of 24 seats in the 48-strong municipal council.
VP Mayor Siegfried Nagl has taken away the majority of the election winner KP – top candidate Elke Kahr – will only discuss how to proceed on Monday evening or Tuesday. For the time being, Kahr did not say anything about it, she wanted to wait for the postal vote to be counted – and on Monday morning received the long-established visit of a delegation from Switzerland in the town hall.
After the resignation of long-term mayor Siegfried Nagl on Monday evening, the VP cleared the transition to successor Kurt Hohensinner in a city party board meeting. He was elected unanimously.

The FP celebrated its traditional “blue Monday”. It was still open whether Mario Eustacchio would remain deputy mayor. In any case, on the evening of the election he had made the announcement of the opposition for his members of the Freedom Party. In any case, the city party leadership of the Grazer FP will only meet on Thursday evening and discuss the election.
The SP waited with its board meeting for the postal voting results to be announced. It will now take place on Monday evening.
