The climate conference a success? This development expert says yes

A historic decision was made on the last day of the climate conference: Developing countries should receive money from the industrialized countries for climate damage and losses. Sabine Minninger, climate expert at Bread for the World, explains exactly what that means.

Was this year’s climate conference a success?
I would say so. The climate conference was a victory for the poorest and most vulnerable countries. They made sure that a fund should finally be set up from which they would be compensated if they suffered losses as a result of climate change. But to achieve that, a few bucks had to be swallowed. At the climate conference, one topic is never negotiated alone, everything is used as a bargaining chip. So there is now a commitment for this fund, but no ambition for climate protection itself.
