Sönke Neitzel is currently the only professor of military history in Germany. In an interview with star the historian talks about the rocket impact in Poland, propaganda during the war and how world wars come about.
Mr. Neitzel, when a rocket hit Poland last week, fears grew that the war in Ukraine would escalate. Right?
NATO’s level-headed reaction shows that the West has no interest in getting involved in the conflict. Even if the misguided missile had been a Russian one, NATO would not have escalated the situation immediately. It’s actually a miracle that no Russian missile has yet fallen on NATO soil. Even in war things go wrong, rockets don’t explode where they should explode and keep flying. During the Cold War, a fighter plane flew unmanned through Europe to Belgium.
