FDP and Greens share selfie after the first preliminary explorations

Before they meet with the SPD or CDU to sound out a coalition, the FDP and the Greens want to explore commonalities. That seems to work out quite well, as Annalena Baerbock, Robert Habeck, Christian Lindner and Volker Wissing announce in a selfie.

The leaders of the Greens and FDP surprisingly held preliminary talks about joint government participation on Tuesday. Also on board: FDP general secretary Volker Wissing, FDP leader Christian Lindner and the two Greens chairmen Annalena Baerbock and Robert Habeck.

After the negotiations, they shared a picture in unison – and a common message: “In the search for a new government, we are exploring common ground and bridges over things that divide us. And even find some. Exciting times.” These sentences can be found under a selfie that the four top politicians published on Instagram on Wednesday night. and apparently had put a filter over the photo. Their versions look lighter and have a different shade.

The Greens and the FDP want to set basic lines

The selfies collected almost 100,000 likes and thousands of comments by Wednesday morning. Annalena Baerbock’s photo left more than 38,000 people. Her colleague Robert Habeck had a good 16,000. FDP General Secretary Wissing was able to collect more than 3,400 likes. And at Christian Lindner, there were even just under 42,000 in the morning.

After the federal election, the Greens and Liberals could enter into a traffic light coalition with the SPD as well as an alliance with the Union. However, the SPD won the election on Sunday with Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz. The declared goal of the Greens and the FDP is to agree on the basic lines of political cooperation, which should serve as a prerequisite for a “restart” of government policy in Germany. Only later do both want to speak to the party of a possible chancellor.
