At the beginning of the year, the expert Stefan Weber, known as the “plagiarism hunter”, identified “plagiarism, incorrect quotations and insufficient knowledge of German” in his thesis from 2006. The FH then initiated the procedure. Aschbacher resigned less because of these allegations, but because of passages from her dissertation at the Technical University of Bratislava that became known shortly afterwards. Weber also raised allegations of plagiarism against them and identified defective German – passages in which a “Forbes” article was translated into German became known: “Assumptions are like barnacles on the side of a boat; they slow us down.
The proceedings in Slovakia are still ongoing
“The plagiarism proceedings in Slovakia are still ongoing. Aschbacher himself defended himself by having written both his diploma thesis and dissertation” to the best of his knowledge and belief.
For the examination of the diploma thesis, the FH Wiener Neustadt chose the usual way in Austria. She asked the OeAWI for an examination, which in turn commissioned external experts. The benchmarks for this were the framework conditions applicable to the constitution in 2006. During the examination, deficiencies in compliance with the standards of good scientific practice were found. “A deliberate and deliberate intent to deceive, however, has not been proven,” said the FH broadcast. “The revocation of the academic degree is therefore not justifiable.” Accordingly, the proceedings were discontinued.
