The proportion of MPs with a migration background in the Bundestag has risen by around three percentage points and is now 11.3 percent – which is, however, still significantly lower than the population average. In the podcast “today important”, presenter Michel Abdollahi speaks with Carsten Janke from the integration media service, who collected the figures. “It is a problem of democracy when certain groups in society are so little represented in parliament,” said Janke.

Day of literacy and numeracy difficulties

Every tenth school child has reading and spelling difficulties, in very different ways. This number alone should actually ensure that the topic slips onto the agenda of politics and educational institutions. But the 22-year-old Kai West Schlosser, himself affected by severe dyslexia, had to experience the opposite. He says of his school days: “Many teachers were almost disinterested in helping me with my dyslexia. It was clear to them that if you don’t get any further at grammar school, you just go to secondary school.” Today he works as an art director in an agency and thinks – spelling is massively overrated.
