After the storm on the Capitol, the former US President Donald Trump was banned from Twitter – because of calls for violence. But the ex-president seems to miss his favorite social network badly. Now he wants to go back there – with legal steps.
Former US President Donald Trump continues his legal battle against the suspension of his Twitter account. Trump applied to a court in Florida on Friday (local time) for an injunction against the short message service – with the aim of unblocking his account. In the court document, the Republican argues, among other things, that Twitter was forced by members of the US Congress to censor it. The short message service also wields a level of power and control over the country’s political discourse that is “immeasurable,” “historically unprecedented,” and “deeply dangerous” to open democratic debate.
Donald Trump: Already filed a lawsuit in July
Twitter – like Facebook and Youtube – had Trump’s accounts blocked in January shortly before the end of his term in office. The trigger was the storming of the US Capitol by supporters of Trump – and that he expressed sympathy for the attackers. He also continues to claim, without any evidence, that his presidential election victory in November was stolen by fraud. With that he heated up the mood in the country.
Twitter, where more than 80 million users followed Trump, was until then the most important communication platform for him. The ex-president has been fighting against blocking his account for a long time. He had already filed a lawsuit against Twitter in July because of the blockade.
