The member of the National Council received 95.75 percent of the vote. He accounted for 293 of the total of 308 votes cast. During the count, two invalid votes and 13 deletions were recorded.
“I am aware that I am following in great footsteps, I humbly accept,” said Angerer. Previously, he and FP boss Herbert Kickl had ridden sharp attacks against the governments at the federal and state level, but in their speeches also repeatedly reminded of Jrg Haider. While Angerer was moderate at the lectern, Kickl made a punch-filled all-round attack against parties and the media.
In Krnten, “an anemic policy is being made at the state level, there is a sleeping-car mentality,” ranted Kickl. In the past, people always waited for what Haider would say on a topic: “And today you don’t even know where Klagenfurt is and where Krnten is.” The FP should again play a “very dynamic role” in federal politics. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen does not want to allow a march through in the next election, if he should run. “He will get a decent, liberal competitor,” said Kickl.
The greatest success stories were written in Krnten, “that wasn’t a coincidence, it was a liberal policy,” said the born Krnten Kickl. The first liberal governor in Krnten was a “boon for all of Austria”. Previously, the Freedom Party had been described as insane. Probably like now, said Kickl: “I am convinced that we will provide the governor again in the foreseeable future, of course!”
After all, the Freedom Party specializes in refuting bad prognoses; he himself is the best example of this. If the FP had been prophesied of relegation under him as federal party leader, it is now: “The funeral has been canceled, the funeral will take place differently,” explained Kickl to loud cheers.
Of course, the topic of migration could not be missing either. He had locked asylum homes, now they would be unlocked again, said Kickl with a view to his time as Minister of the Interior. Kickl touched on the subject of Corona at the very end: “Anyone who is at war with freedom is also at war with the truth – and then also has a problem with democracy.”
Angerer had previously handed out against the SP-led Krnten state government: “In Krnten, the emperor rules with his ladies-in-waiting.” Haider had opened the state government as a contact point for the Corners, now it is closed again – it is only about the interests of one party and no longer those of the Corners. Could be more social, “the state government exudes as much social warmth as the iceberg that drowned the Titanic.” In terms of care, he pleaded that the family should take care of their loved ones with financial support “as long as possible”.
He also warned again of a new wave of migration: “Our access is, we control at our external border, no one should come to us who we do not want.” Instead of refugees, it is better to encourage apprentices, according to Angerer, who received the loudest applause for his announcements on the topic of migration.
Angerer had been the party chairman since the beginning of June, after Gernot Darmann resigned from office. Darmann, however, continued to remain the party’s club chairman in the Krntner Landtag. Popular criticism from within the ranks and rumors that he had resigned under pressure from dissatisfied mayors had always been rejected.
