Markus Söder sees a clear rejection of the Jamaica coalition

CSU boss Markus Söder sees the upcoming three-way talks between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP as a clear rejection of the Jamaica coalition. Armin Laschet, on the other hand, wants to keep the alliance open.

CSU boss Markus Söder has rated the decision by the Greens and FDP to hold three-way talks with the SPD as a “de facto rejection of Jamaica”. Söder spoke of a “clear preliminary decision”. “The FDP and the Greens have decided on this route of traffic lights. They now have to follow it consistently,” said Söder on Wednesday in Munich. The CSU respects the decision. Reality must now be recognized. One had to get used to the fact that there would very likely be a government without the Union.

Laschet wants to keep the Jamaica alliance open

Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet has confirmed the readiness of the CDU and CSU for further exploratory talks. The Union respects that there are now talks between the SPD, Greens and FDP, said Laschet on Wednesday in Düsseldorf. “The starting position for a new federal government has been clear since September 26th: We are in second place.”

In the past few days, the Union has held talks with the FDP and the Greens. “And the FDP has signaled that there is agreement with the Union on very, very many points.” The Union has always signaled: “We are also ready for further talks, but the decision with whom to speak in which order rests with the FDP and the Greens. And therefore our respect for the decision,” said Laschet. “We are ready to talk to, CDU and CSU.”
