SPD confirms traffic light talks with the Greens and FDP

After the Greens and the FDP, the SPD has also commented on the further negotiations. Scholz sees a clear mandate for the traffic light coalition with the Greens and the FDP.

SPD chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz has shown himself pleased about the planned joint exploration with the FDP and the Greens on a government alliance. The citizens had given the SPD an order that a government would come about, said Scholz on Wednesday in Berlin. “It is now up to us to implement that.” It is about the progress of Germany. Economic and industrial modernization and the intensified fight against climate change must be tackled. “That’s what we’re going to talk about now,” said Scholz. “And then it starts tomorrow.”

SPD leader Norbert Walter-Borjans said: “The two possible partners have made a good decision.” The FDP and the Greens had announced that they now want to talk to the SPD about a possible traffic light alliance. Talks to form a so-called Jamaica coalition with the Union, FDP and the Greens should remain an option.

SPD co-leader Saskia Esken was confident that it would be possible to shape a society of respect. Scholz and the SPD put the catchphrase “respect” at the center of their election campaign.
