After the federal election: Söder: A clear preliminary decision for the traffic light coalition has been made

The die has been cast for Jamaica – at least that’s how CSU boss Markus Söder interprets the latest developments at the Greens and FDP in this direction.

CSU boss Markus Söder has rated the decision by the Greens and FDP to hold three-party talks with the SPD as a “de facto rejection of Jamaica”, an alliance of the Union, the Greens and the FDP.

Söder spoke of a “clear preliminary decision”. «The FDP and the Greens have chosen this route of traffic lights. You have to go that now consistently, ”said the Bavarian Prime Minister on Wednesday in Munich.

“We expressly regret the decision,” said Söder. He also phoned the Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet. He continues to believe that a Jamaica alliance made up of the Union, FDP and the Greens would have been a good chance to modernize the country. “It would have been worthwhile to tackle such a project.”

Reality must now be recognized. One had to get used to the fact that there would very likely be a government without the Union. But it is now also about “self-respect and dignity,” said Söder. “We remain ready to talk, but not in a kind of permanent wait position,” he emphasized. “The Union is not, now, after such a clear pattern, the spare wheel and only there to almost always generate a certain amount of pressure in the negotiations,” he added.

Söder left questions about the political future of the joint CDU and CSU candidate for chancellor, Armin Laschet, unanswered. “Questions that concern the CDU must be discussed by the CDU.” But he emphasized that he had harmonized well with CDU boss Laschet in the preliminary rounds. Agreements between the two party leaders would have worked very well.

Julia Klöckner speaks of a turning point for the CDU

The Rhineland-Palatinate CDU chairwoman Julia Klöckner sees the decision by the Greens and FDP to start exploratory talks with the SPD as an important milestone for their own party. “After 16 years of governance, we are facing a turning point,” said Klöckner, who is also the CDU deputy federal chairman, on Wednesday of the “Rheinische Post”. “As hard as it is, we must now see this situation as an opportunity.”

Klöckner said: “We as a Union have the task of examining our content and personnel.” After losing the state election in March and the historically worst result of her party in the federal election, the 48-year-old former Federal Minister of Agriculture has announced that she will be stepping down as state chairman and thus from state politics. Klöckner moved into the new Bundestag as the top candidate on the state list.
