Arif Taşdelen: SPD election campaign manager announces resignation

Arif Taşdelen has announced his resignation as campaign manager and general secretary of the Bavarian SPD. Background are ongoing allegations against him. He complains about “public prejudice”.

Nine months before the Bavarian state elections, the campaign manager and general secretary of the Bavarian SPD, Arif Taşdelen, has resigned. Taşdelen justified this in a statement distributed in Munich on Tuesday by saying that he had been “confronted with allegations and rumors about my communication within the party and with public prejudice” for months. This situation had become too stressful for him and his family, which is why he informed the state chairmen Ronja Endres and Florian von Brunn about his resignation.

Allegations against SPD general secretary

Shortly before Christmas, the Bavarian Jusos had excluded Taşdelen from all of their events. The background was that several young women had complained about allegedly inappropriate behavior such as intrusive questions about cell phone numbers or attempts to contact them via social media. None of the allegations were criminally relevant, the newspaper reported at the time.
