Mask requirement: railway works councils for the nationwide end of the measure

The voices calling for an early end to the mask requirement are increasing. Now it is also the works councils of the railways. It can no longer be “that you have to follow different laws when changing from one train to another,” it says.

After a series of advances, including from the FDP, the works councils of Deutsche Bahn are also calling for a nationwide end to the mask requirement on February 1st in all means of transport. “Soon you will only be forced to wear a mask on the ICE. That is simply not possible,” said the head of the general works council of DB Fernverkehr, Manfred Scholze, to the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” (RND).

Voices for an early end to the mask requirement are increasing

The ICE has better air conditioning and ventilation as well as filters than other public transport, the Scholze newspaper quoted on Friday. “This division must finally end.”

The requirement for long-distance trains actually applies until April 7th. However, several federal states have already abolished the obligation to wear masks in local transport or announced this accordingly. In the past few days, for example, Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing and Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (both FDP) have called for an early end to the obligation or uniform rules.

The General Works Council Chairman of DB Regional Rail/Bus, Ralf Damde, told the “RND” that it could no longer be “that you have to follow other laws when changing from one train to another”. For the employees in particular, it was an “absolute impertinence” to enforce the mask requirement.

Damde called for a “federal political power word so that from February 1st the mask requirement will fall nationwide”. Anyone who voluntarily wants to continue to protect themselves with a mask can do so.
