Clear words from the Ukrainian President: In an interview, Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Germany to deliver the “Leopard” main battle tank to his country – people were dying every day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sharply criticized Germany’s hesitant action on the question of possible main battle tank deliveries to his country.
“You’re grown people. You can talk like that for six months, but people die here – every day,” said Selenskyj in an ARD interview broadcast on Thursday evening. “In plain language: can you deliver leopards or not? Then hand them over!” he appealed to Berlin. “It’s not like we’re going to attack, in case anyone’s worried. Those leopards aren’t going to drive through Russia. We’re defending ourselves.”
Discussions on further arms deliveries to Ukraine
At the same time, the Ukrainian head of state emphasized with regard to the military aid already provided: “We are grateful. I want everyone to hear that: We are grateful to Germany.”
Ukraine has been resisting Russia’s war of aggression for nearly 11 months and is largely dependent on Western support for military equipment. On Friday, the Western Allies in Ramstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, will discuss further arms deliveries to Kyiv – it is eagerly awaited whether the delivery of battle tanks will be announced. Great Britain has already announced it, Poland and Finland are ready to do so in the European association.
