Government: Ex-US Vice President Pence also had secret documents at home

Secret documents from Trump’s former vice president Mike Pence have also been discovered. Pence’s lawyers had uncovered the classified information. The find could be a ray of hope for Biden.

Another possible presidential candidate is in need of explanation because of the possession of secret government documents: According to consistent media reports on Tuesday, secret files from the time in office of former US Vice President Mike Pence were also found in the private villa of former US Vice President Mike Pence. A lawyer for the politician found about a dozen documents in his house in the state of Indiana last week, the broadcaster CNN reported. The documents have since been picked up by the federal police.

The 63-year-old was Vice President Donald Trump for four years. The case is causing a stir because in the past few weeks confidential documents from the time when US President Joe Biden was Vice President Barack Obama have appeared several times in private rooms.

The affair is putting the Democrats under pressure, especially because of the White House’s unsuccessful communication policy. The government only released bits and pieces of information about the constant flow of new documents found at Biden, and sometimes only after the media had already reported on it. The Biden affair is currently under investigation by both the Justice Department and a committee of the US House of Representatives, in which Republicans have held a majority since the beginning of the year.

Fund could play Biden in the cards

The chairman of the committee, the Republican James Comer, tried to distinguish the find at Pence from the Causa Biden. Comer wrote in a statement that the transparency Pence has shown “stands in stark contrast” to the White House, which continues to withhold information from the US Congress and the American people.

However, observers assume that the discovery at Pence will make it more difficult for Biden’s political opponents to attack the president without damaging Pence as well. There are clear parallels between the two cases. According to Pence’s lawyer and the White House, both Biden and Pence are said to have cooperated fully with the authorities regarding the return of the documents.

Pence was unaware of the existence of the classified information, his attorney wrote. When asked by a reporter last year if he had taken classified documents from the White House, Pence said, “No, I didn’t.”

According to media reports, Pence had his house in Carmel searched by a lawyer for documents in the course of the documents found at Biden. The files discovered are a small number of classified documents that were “accidentally bagged up and taken to the former vice president’s private estate after the Republican’s term in office ended,” Pence’s attorney wrote in a letter to the National Archives, which is responsible for preserving old government documents.

Trump backed Pence

Pence is considered extremely conscientious. As Vice President, he appeared as a loyal companion of Donald Trump. The fact that Trump incited his supporters against Pence on the day of the attack on the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021, damaged the relationship between the two permanently. Trump, for his part, caused a scandal with the appearance of classified information in his private property in the summer. The FBI raided his Florida home in August and seized thousands of documents, including classified documents. After the search, Pence had backed his former boss.

Trump, in turn, demonstratively backed Pence on Tuesday. Pence is innocent and should be left alone, Trump said on the Truth Social platform he co-founded. Other prominent Republicans also defended Pence. US Senator Lindsey Graham tweeted on Tuesday that he does not believe that Pence had “bad intentions” with regard to the secret documents. The same applies to Biden and Trump, Graham wrote.

Both Biden and Pence are expected to run for president in the 2024 election. However, Pence would first have to prevail against his former boss, Donald Trump, in the party’s internal primaries. Neither Biden nor Pence have officially announced their candidacy.
