Even before Russia had started its war of aggression, Germany raised eyebrows by announcing that it would send 5,000 helmets to Ukraine. Given what the country would face in the event of an invasion, that was less than the famous drop in the ocean. Now, almost exactly a year later, the government in Berlin is announcing the deployment of Leopard 2 tanks. And no sooner had Chancellor Olaf Scholz said what was previously unthinkable than Kyiv announced further wishes: fighter jets and submarines.
Who all delivers weapons to Ukraine
Within twelve months, the Ukraine war swept away all certainties of the post-war decades. Above all, but not only in Berlin. After the USA, the Federal Republic is now the second-biggest supplier of weapons for the attacked country: whether Mars rocket launchers, the Gepard anti-aircraft tank or now the Leopard 2, new equipment is brought in almost every week, or at least promised to Kyiv.
