“Integrity, professionalism and accountability,” Rishi Sunak promised the British in his inauguration speech in October. A good three months later, the unelected Prime Minister is struggling with scandals and feuds within the party, while the country is paralyzed by recession, inflation and waves of strikes.
The past year was, to quote their beloved Queen, an “annus horribilis” for the British. The monarch herself blessed the temporal in September 2022, which was the least of the evils. Apparently she didn’t want to leave earthly realms before Boris Johnson had finally left Ten Downing Street and she had welcomed the new Prime Minister Liz Truss. After all, she wanted to know that her country was in good hands. That’s it.
Liz Truss only lasted 45 days, but in that time managed to briefly ruin the country’s economy and what was left of the nation’s reputation at the time.
