Migration: Söder is now also demanding a refugee summit near Scholz

A top meeting with Federal Interior Minister Faeser is no longer enough for him. The Bavarian Prime Minister Söder calls for rapid steps by the federal government and sees the Chancellor as responsible.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) is now also demanding a refugee summit led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) – and rapid steps by the federal government to relieve the situation. “Many, many municipalities are at the breaking point,” said Söder after a cabinet meeting in Munich, with a view to the high number of refugees. So far, however, there have only been vague promises of help.

Unlike on Friday, Söder is no longer satisfied with a top meeting with Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD). “Here the Chancellor is asked personally,” said the CSU boss. “Cucking away” is not enough, a solution is needed.

Söder asked Faeser on Friday to convene a municipal summit. The SPD politician announced on Sunday a meeting with representatives of the municipal umbrella organizations and the conference of interior ministers. According to the ministry, it should take place within the next two to three weeks.

Specifically, Söder called for the immediate transfer of additional federal property, more money from the federal government, no additional admission programs for refugees, a fair distribution of refugees within the European Union and “immediate implementation” of the repatriation offensive announced by the federal government.
