The CDU and SPD had a long agenda for the second day of their exploratory talks. Now it should continue at the end of the week. Talks with other possible coalition partners are scheduled for Wednesday.
The Berlin election winner CDU and the SPD want to meet on Friday for another exploratory talks about a possible government formation. This was announced by CDU top candidate Kai Wegner and Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD). “We’ve made a good step forward,” Wegner said on Monday after the second exploratory talk, which lasted a good six hours. The exchange with the Social Democrats was very constructive, but there are still open questions.
Governing Mayor and SPD state chairwoman Giffey said that nine of the twelve topics to be dealt with in the exploratory talks have now been completed. There are overlaps between the two parties, but also points of dissent. The three topics of health, science and finance should be discussed on Friday.
The SPD has already invited to exploratory talks with the Greens and the Left on Tuesday. The two current coalition partners agreed. The second exploratory meeting between the CDU and the Greens is scheduled for Wednesday.
