The federal government wants to tighten the regulations for smaller ships. This makes the work of some civil sea rescue organizations impossible. What the helpers understand as harassment, explains the ministry with more certainty. Is Europe further sealing itself off?
It’s just four months since the federal government promised to support civil sea rescue with two million euros a year. It was said that dying in the Mediterranean should not be accepted, and that saving lives is not a crime, but a humanitarian obligation. The changes would make it impossible for several German sea rescue ships to leave the port.
