3G duty at work: Second day of protest in front of the port of Trieste

The striking dock workers besieged the port of Trieste on the second day as a result of Gate 4, but granted free access. A group of port workers and around 100 citizens spent the night in front of the port entrance. The protesters did not put up any barriers so that cars and trucks could enter the port regularly and unhindered. The dock workers in Trieste threatened an indefinite strike, although they were offered free corona tests. Similar demonstrations took place outside the ports of Genoa and Ancona. Garbage collection in Genoa is at risk in the next few days as the demonstrators protesting against the Green Pass are blocking the port entrances and have been preventing the trucks from bringing the garbage to a facility in the port area since Friday, the municipal garbage disposal company reported.

Garbage collection in Genoa could be suspended

Inside the port of Genoa there is a press that presses all of the city’s waste before it is disposed of. The company expects that the garbage collection in Genoa could be stopped if the blockade persists. Tens of thousands of Italians protested on Friday in several cities against the newly introduced obligation to present a corona passport at work.

Since Friday, only those who can prove a corona vaccination, recovery or a negative corona test have been allowed to come to work in Italy. Anyone who comes to work without the so-called “green pass” risks fines of up to 1,500 euros. Anyone who stays away from work because they cannot show the document must expect unpaid leave of absence.

Corona tests are chargeable

If you do not want to be vaccinated, you have to do a corona test at your own expense and repeat it every 48 to 72 hours, depending on the type of test. In the past few weeks there had been some violent protests against the new regulation.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 85 percent of Italians over the age of twelve have now received at least one corona vaccination. It is estimated that up to three million workers are still unvaccinated.
