Violent riots in pension reform.
Nationwide protests in France after the government announced that it would push through the controversial pension reform without a vote in the National Assembly. Here are pictures from the center of the capital Paris on Friday night. Demonstrators threw rubbish on the streets and set it on fire. The police were on site in large numbers. According to the security authorities, more than 200 people were arrested. There were also protests in some other cities. The unions have announced large-scale protests and strikes for the coming week. With the reform, the French government of President Emmanuel Macron wants, among other things, to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, otherwise the system would no longer be fundable.
