As Serbia drifts further and further away from the EU and towards Russia, President Aleksandar Vučić is trying to cement his power. Vladimir Putin is actively helping – with money, cheap gas and hate propaganda, which is being spread with the help of advertising money from Germany.
The video clip with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić in a heroic pose flickers over and over again on almost all of the Balkan state’s television channels, there is no escape. The short film shows the tall man with the bulging lips waving through enthusiastic crowds of people on a stage in a sports hall. Banners hang on the walls: “Serbia dreams and dreams come true”. Around 8000 people are here, brought at the expense of the organizer with 150 buses from all over the south of the republic, drinks and food included.
