In Russia, the corona situation is getting out of hand. Head of state Vladimir Putin has now ordered a week off due to the sharp rise in the number of infections. During a video link broadcast live on state TV yesterday, he agreed to a corresponding proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova. From October 30th to November 7th, workers across the country should stay at home, but continue to receive their wages.
Regions where the situation is particularly dire can even extend the non-working period. With days off, Putin tried to get the corona situation under control at the beginning of the pandemic. Criticism came from business in particular that the crisis was being carried out on their backs.
Yesterday, the statistics showed 1,028 corona deaths in 24 hours – more than ever in one day. More than 34,000 new infections were also registered. Only a third of Russians are vaccinated.
