For spreading false information, the former US President Donald Trump was banned from social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Now he is planning to launch a new network of his own – and immediately has to take the first setback.
Up until the US election this year, social networks such as Twitter and Facebook were an important tool in the election campaign and communication for Donald Trump. He did not always take the truth very seriously – that is why the networks ultimately banned him for life or for several years. Donald Trump’s solution for this: He wants to develop his own network – and the start is now more concrete. Before that, however, he has to accept a major defeat.
Donald Trump was already on Twitter, until his account was deleted by the politician with the second most followers worldwide, only under the handle @realDonaldTrump and had to take some malice for it. After all, the most powerful politician in the world should be able to get a serious username that only consists of a first and last name and does not contain the addition “real”. Apparently, Trump’s relationships with Twitter’s support team weren’t good enough – or too strained.
Trump’s new social network: User grabs “his” Username
With his own new network “Truth Social” he would have had the chance to be one of the first users to choose his desired username – but a journalist and resourceful user tracked down the not even officially published page and directly secured the username @donaldtrump. Apparently the ability to find the network was already an undesirable error, because the site and thus also the registration are no longer possible.
“Truth Social”: Are legal problems threatening Trump?
Trump and his network “Truth Social” but there are still other consequences. Because apparently sets “Truth Social” to the open source software Mastodon. Mastodon can in principle also be used by companies and also commercially, however, if the functions or the display of the software are changed, the source text of the changes must also be disclosed and the license must also be linked. Both are with “Truth Social” So far not the case, so the network would violate the terms and conditions of the software according to the current status.
Mastodon himself has since confirmed on Twitter that “Truth Social” obviously using their software. It is still unclear whether the smartphone app belonging to the network also violates the terms and conditions of other software manufacturers.
