Eight people have been arrested in Belgium in connection with attack plans. As reported by the Belga news agency, citing the public prosecutor’s office, at least two of them are suspected of having prepared a terrorist attack in Belgium.
According to the broadcaster RTBF, some of those arrested are known for their Islamist extremism. The target of a possible attack was initially unclear.
According to Belga, three suspects were arrested after investigations by a Brussels investigating magistrate, and an investigating magistrate from Antwerp was responsible for the five other arrests. While these are separate investigations, there are links between the arrests.
