The UN mission to monitor human rights in Ukraine is “horrified” by a video circulating online showing the alleged beheading of a Ukrainian soldier. The UN mission calls for investigations to “hold those responsible to account”.
The EU Commission declares in Brussels that she has no information about the veracity of the video. Should it be authentic, however, the killing of a prisoner of war would be “a serious violation of the Geneva Convention” and would show “once again Russia’s total disregard for international law, and in particular international humanitarian law,” stressed commission spokeswoman Nabila Massrali. All perpetrators and accomplices of war crimes would be held accountable.
Moscow and Kiev have repeatedly accused each other of killing prisoners of war.
