Only 27 percent are in favor of him staying. This emerges from the Austria trend created by Peter Hajek for APA and ATV. Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg is rated as the most suitable VP Chancellor. The survey took place between October 18th and 21st. 800 people aged 16 and over were interviewed online and over the phone. The fluctuation range is +/- 3.5 percent.
Complete retreat or stay?
“Should Sebastian Kurz remain club chairman and party leader or should he withdraw from all political functions?” To these questions, 65 percent answered yes, 27 percent no, and eight percent gave no answer. However, things looked very different among VP voters: A total of 81 percent were in favor of Kurz remaining in politics, 13 percent in favor of a complete withdrawal.
Chancellor question: “Schallenberg more suitable”
When it came to the question of “which person would be suitable as VP Chancellor”, Kurz did not do well at all. Only 23 percent find that it is “very” or “more suitable”. 68 percent find it “little” and “not at all suitable”. The rest did not provide any information. With 41 percent agreement and 46 percent disagreement, Schallenberg had the best value among the interviewed VP personalities. VP voters also consider Schallenberg to be more suitable than Kurz. He got 88 percent approval and only seven percent disapproval. However, Kurz also had relatively good values among the VP voters with 71 percent approval and 25 percent disapproval.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (22 approval / 63 rejection), Agriculture Minister Elisabeth Kstinger (18/61) and European Minister Karoline Edtstadler (15/58) have similar values (in the general population). Governors Wilfried Haslauer (Salzburg) and Hermann Schtzenhfer (Styria) each have 20 percent approval and 45 and 51 percent disagreement.
The fact that the VP ministers stood behind Kurz at the beginning of the government crisis and signed that they would resign if Kurz does not remain Chancellor, but now all have remained in office, is viewed critically. 52 percent reject this, 35 are in favor of the ministers. 14 percent have no opinion on this.
