Last week, Donald Trump’s trip to New York for the indictment caused a worldwide sensation. Now another case leads him to his former hometown.
Former US President Donald Trump has arrived in New York for questioning about his business practices. According to TV images, the 76-year-old’s motorcade reached the office of Attorney General Letitia James in Manhattan.
It is Trump’s first visit to New York following his criminal indictment last week in connection with paying hush money to a porn star.
In this case, New York’s Attorney General Letitia James Trump had but civilly indicted. She accuses him, the company named after him and his three children Donald Junior, Eric and Ivanka of showing assets larger or smaller as needed, for example to get easier access to loans or to pay less taxes.
With the case, scheduled to go to court in October, James wants the Trumps to pay $250 million in redress. Trump’s company denies the allegations. In a previous questioning under oath last year, Trump refused to testify hundreds of times for hours – except for his name.
Mood heated in the USA
It is initially unclear what the focus of the survey of the 76-year-old scheduled for today is. Some opponents and supporters of the former US President had gathered in front of the Attorney General’s office. The mood in the US regarding the legal prosecution of Trump is heated. He is being investigated for a number of possible crimes. Trump himself dismisses all cases as politically motivated actions to prevent him from running for the presidency in 2024. Trump applied for it months ago.
Last week, Trump became the first former US President to be criminally indicted. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg accused him of trying to increase his chances in the 2016 presidential election by paying hush money to two women, thereby violating election laws. He tried to disguise the payments with false entries in business documents.
