Serious allegations against the former CDU member of the Bundestag Mark Hauptmann. The 38-year-old is said to have raped an employee of the Foreign Office in Japan.
The public prosecutor’s office in Potsdam is investigating the former Thuringian CDU member of the Bundestag, Mark Hauptmann, on suspicion of rape. The Foreign Office had filed a complaint, a spokeswoman for the prosecution confirmed on Friday.
According to the prosecutor, Hauptmann is accused of raping an employee of the Federal Foreign Office on a trip to Japan in 2019. According to information from “Spiegel”, Hauptmann traveled to Japan in July 2019 with a delegation from the young group of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, of which he was chairman at the time. Union politicians visited robotics inventors, German entrepreneurs and representatives of parliament and government in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
Mark Hauptmann has not been in the CDU since 2021
Hauptmann has not yet admitted to the allegation, the public prosecutor said. According to “Spiegel”, the 38-year-old denies the allegation, but has so far not wanted to answer questions from the magazine. The alleged rape victim was questioned by the public prosecutor in Potsdam at the end of March.
The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor’s office could not say when the investigation will be completed.
Hauptmann resigned his Bundestag mandate in March 2021 and left the CDU. Born in Thuringia, he was accused of lobbying for the government of Azerbaijan. He is also said to have received commissions for arranging corona protection masks.
