Conflicts: Belarus threatens West during military maneuvers

Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Chrenin accused Poland of preparing to attack his country and Russia. If the worst comes to the worst, he threatens to use nuclear weapons.

The Defense Minister of Belarus threatened to deploy strategic nuclear weapons during an unannounced maneuver by the Belarusian army. “If necessary, we will also have strategic nuclear weapons. We are already preparing existing launch pads,” Viktor Chrenin said at a military training ground.

If the West’s hostile rhetoric persists, that will be “the next step,” the general said. Belarus itself has no nuclear weapons. At the end of March, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that tactical nuclear weapons would be stationed in the former Soviet republic.

Before Chrenin, the ruler of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, had threatened to agree with Russia on the stationing of strategic nuclear weapons in the country if necessary. Strategic nuclear weapons have a significantly greater range than tactical ones.

At the same time, Chrenin specifically accused Poland of preparing to attack Belarus and Russia. “Arms deliveries from both America and South Korea are planned there. We also see that their military infrastructure is being prepared and new units and brigades are being created that were never mentioned before,” said the 51-year-old. All of this is directed against Belarus, he claimed.

He described the maneuvers in the Brest region in western Belarus as a premiere. For the first time, a sudden troop review is taking place on such a large scale. According to him, a whole brigade with 6,000 soldiers was mobilized and marched.

The ruler Lukashenko is politically, economically and militarily dependent on Moscow. Russia also launched its aggressive war against Ukraine from Belarusian territory. On Friday morning, Moscow also surprisingly put its entire Pacific fleet on alert and combat readiness during an unannounced inspection and started a troop exercise.
