On Monday yesterday, Upper Austria recorded more than 7,000 actively detectable infections and almost 12,000 people in quarantine. The 7-day incidence was 388 per 100,000 population. 204 Covid-19 patients were in treatment on normal beds and 37 in intensive care units. The increased number of occupied intensive care beds has already led to exit controls in the Braunau district since midnight today, where the averaged 7-day incidence has been above the limit of 400 defined in the federal decree for several days.
In order to bring the infection process back under control in Upper Austria and to protect the population as best as possible – in addition to the national protective measures – the state politicians, in coordination with experts, decided on additional measures yesterday evening: It will come from Friday, October 29th in Upper Austria to a significant expansion of the FFP2 mask requirement. Accordingly, all customers in all shops and shopping centers in Upper Austria must wear an FFP2 mask, as well as all visitors to cultural institutions such as museums and libraries.
The exceptions already valid for wearing an FFP2 mask in accordance with the nationwide Corona Measures Ordinance also apply to the new Upper Austrian ordinance, which applies until further notice.
“The protection of the health of all Upper Austrians is our top priority. The results of this summit are additional but necessary measures to counteract the infection process and prevent further lockdown. The measures are a result of increasing numbers of infections and an insufficiently high vaccination rate. It is and will remain our goal to push back the pandemic with all our might in order to be able to live the freedom that we know. Vaccination is the most effective way to continue protecting yourself and others. It is a sign of solidarity and it is precisely this that needs to be strengthened and remembered so that we can get through the cold season safely and healthily, ”says Deputy Governor and State Health Minister Christine Haberlander to protect herself against the coronavirus with vaccinations.
