Watch the video: According to the mercenary chief Prigozhin, Ukraine’s counter-offensive is underway
The Ukrainian army on Wednesday released a video purporting to show Ukrainian soldiers storming Russian positions in eastern Ukraine. Based on the metal structures and green areas seen in the video, Reuters was able to verify that the recordings were actually made in the Bakhmut region. However, it was not possible to independently confirm when they were taken.
According to the Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, the long-awaited Ukrainian has begun. Ukrainian units advanced on the flanks towards the town of Bakhmut, Prigozhin reports on the short message service Telegram. Unfortunately, the counteroffensive was partially successful. Prigozhin’s Wagner mercenaries and Ukrainian soldiers have been fighting bitterly over Bakhmut for months. Prigozhin has repeatedly accused the Russian military leadership and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu of not receiving enough weapons and ammunition for his units. He also threatened to withdraw his mercenaries from Bakhmut.
