Migrants have been smuggled across the German-Polish border for weeks. Now there was one dead.
The police found a lifeless refugee on Friday morning near the German-Polish border near Görlitz. After attempted resuscitation, an emergency doctor was only able to determine the death of the man, said the Görlitz police department.
According to initial findings, it is a 32-year-old Iraqi, as the police announced around noon. The time of death was therefore already a few hours ago, more precise information should be provided by an autopsy.
The police had previously been informed of a possible smuggling by a witness. When the police and federal police officers arrived in Schöpstal not far from Autobahn 4 (Görlitz – Dresden), they found about 30 people who were just getting out of a van. The alleged smuggler had already fled at this point. According to the police, it should be a 42-year-old. Investigators temporarily arrested the 48-year-old driver of a second vehicle in connection with the investigation. It was initially unclear where the refugees came from. The police started a manhunt for the driver.
