Climate activist Luisa Neubauer calls for quick action on climate protection and criticizes politics and business.
Fridays for Future calls for global climate demonstrations again for September 15th. “Never before has it been more important than this year that people around the world stand up for climate protection and show that honest, quick action is urgently needed,” said climate activist Luisa Neubauer of the German Press Agency.
People around the world have just experienced how livelihoods are being destroyed by droughts in France, floods in Italy or storms in Myanmar. “But instead of switching to emergency mode, politics and business have switched to another, new mode: greenwashing,” criticized Neubauer. Instead of acting green, “green fairy tales” would be told. With climate talks and green vocabulary, people are lulled into a false sense of security.
In this context, Neubauer also criticized Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD): “He too speaks green, but acts fossil”. Scholz supports what she sees as an excessive number of new terminals for liquid gas, shy away from a timely exit from coal and does not get combustion cars off the streets.
Fridays for Future has called for global climate protests several times in the past. According to the organization, more than 220,000 people took to the streets in Germany on March 3rd.
