According to the German Wind Energy Association, the decisive hurdle in the expansion of wind power is the approval of the systems. But not all countries are acting as quickly as they could.
Before the second “wind summit” in the Federal Ministry of Economics, the Federal Wind Energy Association (BWE) calls for more speed in the expansion of wind energy. Despite all the challenges in supply chains and personnel requirements, the industry is ready, said Vice President Bärbel Heidebroek of the German Press Agency in Berlin.
Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) is advising this Tuesday with representatives of the federal states, municipalities and the wind industry. Heidebroek referred to a significantly increasing number of permits for wind turbines. “But the positive trend is only based on three federal states. That is insufficient. All federal states must use the laws that have already been passed.”
This requires a commitment at the Wind Summit. North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony have recently pushed ahead with the expansion of wind turbines on land, both in terms of construction and the volume of new permits.
“Where the federal government is solely responsible, it must act now,” demanded Heidebroek. It takes speed. The approval authorities needed clear guidelines and would have to become faster. The approval of a wind turbine is considered a crucial hurdle. This is followed by a call for tenders, then construction. All federal ministries are now required, explained Heidebroek. “We don’t need new obstacles, we need solutions.”
