Russia has been hit with a host of sanctions over its war in Ukraine. Most recently, at the summit meeting in Hiroshima over the weekend, the G7 states decided to deprive the aggressor of “the G7 technologies, industrial equipment and services that support its war machine”. Accordingly, export restrictions are to be enacted for goods that are “crucial for Russia on the battlefield”, as well as sanctions against companies and organizations that bring war material to the front for Moscow.
Last week, the United States announced new punitive measures against the regime in Moscow. Among other things, the plan is to cut off about 70 companies and organizations from Russia and other countries from US exports, according to a senior representative of President Joe Biden’s government. Also, more than 300 individuals, companies and organizations, ships and planes should be sanctioned.
Moscow punishes critics of Donald Trump
The Kremlin immediately responded to the announcement from Washington with retaliatory measures: In response to the anti-Russian sanctions regularly imposed by the Biden administration, 500 Americans were denied entry to the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow said. Among them are not only “‘iconic’ personalities such as former US President Barack Obama”, but also current executives at various levels of the executive branch, ex-officials, […] senators and congressmen elected for the first time in the November 2022 elections, experts and employees of ‘think tanks’ involved in the dissemination of Russophobic tricks and fakes, and heads of defense companies supplying arms to the regime in Kiev”.
It is remarkable how much Russian President Vladimir Putin shares Donald Trump’s enemy image. Because among the 500 new names there are a striking number of critics and opponents of the former US President. The list also includes those in US government and law enforcement “who were directly involved in the prosecution of dissidents after the so-called ‘attack on the Capitol,'” the ministry said, making it clear that it The storming of the House of Representatives in Washington on January 6, 2021 – similar to Trump – is a legitimate uprising that political power considers.
The sanctioned legal representatives who are investigating Trump also include prominent TV presenters and journalists who are critical of Trump, as well as comedians who regularly make fun of the ex-president. A selection of the most well-known personalities can be found in the photo gallery above.
