The Chancellor’s left hand likes to rest on his stomach. What’s it all about? starColumnist Nico Fried thinks Olaf Scholz’ gesture fits in with its sparseness to the other communication of the Chancellor.
Olaf Scholz likes to put his left hand on his stomach. Especially when he is photographed. The hand then lands approximately at the height of the closed jacket button. On his most recent visit to Estonia, this was easy to observe again: Scholz was standing next to Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and had his left hand in front of his stomach. He walked the pretty streets of Tallinn’s Old Town with Kallas with his left hand in front of his stomach. He greeted the colleagues from Lithuania and Latvia with Kallas and had his left hand in front of his stomach. It always looks a bit stiff, almost as if the chancellor has taken off the sling after healing a fracture but forgotten his arm.
