Greta Thunberg is the face of the Fridays For Future movement. During the 26th UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, she criticized the participating governments’ climate protection policies with a modified fan song.
The eighteen-year-old makes it clear that the industrialized nations shy away from a necessary 180 degree turnaround in climate policy:
O-Ton Thunberg: At the climate conference there are only politicians and influential people who only pretend that they take our future seriously. They just pretend they care about the people who are directly affected by the climate crisis. Change will have to come from us, not from them.
While it was the last UN climate conference for Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson called for binding negotiation results.
O-Ton Johnson: When it comes to tackling climate change, no empty words, no bla-bla-bla, but only concrete measures help.
In the next two weeks, the Glasgow climate conference will be negotiating, in particular, specific resolutions on compliance with the 1.5 degree target. The heads of state of the largest CO2 emitters Russia and China are not expected in person.
