Participants in a “Reich Citizens” meeting have been arriving in Thuringia since midday. There are police checks; the participation of well-known right-wing extremists cannot be ruled out either.
The Thuringian police are keeping an eye on an event of the “Reichsbürger” scene. The meeting was cleared up, said Thuringia’s Interior Minister Georg Maier (SPD) of the German Press Agency.
Previously, details such as the exact location of the meeting had been kept secret. According to reports, participants in the meeting have been arriving since midday. According to Maier, there are close controls – such as identity checks. According to estimates from security circles, this weekend’s event is a “big networking meeting” of the scene of supra-regional importance.
The spokeswoman for anti-fascism for the left-wing parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament, Katharina König-Preuss, called on Maier to “exhaust all legal options in the short term in order to be able to take action against the event”. According to König-Preuss, several hundred Reich citizens and supporters of the right-wing scene are expected at the meeting planned over the weekend from Friday.
Participation of well-known right-wing extremists cannot be ruled out
According to dpa information from security circles, the meeting will take place in Leinefelde-Worbis in Eichsfeld – in an object that is already known to the authorities.
The participation of well-known right-wing extremists cannot be ruled out either, the security authorities said. More than a hundred so-called Reich citizens are said to have attended a similar meeting last October.
“Reich citizens” are people who deny the existence of the Federal Republic. Among other things, they reject the democratic order in Germany. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution assumes that around 23,000 people belong to this scene.
