Turquoise-green majority in the Federal Council from now on

One result of the state elections in Upper Austria was that a Federal Council mandate went from blue to turquoise. At today’s meeting of the regional chamber, five instead of four VP mandataries from Upper Austria will be sworn in. Barbara Tausch, Alexandra Platzer and Franz Ebner are new. Johanna Miesenberger and Andrea Holzner have already been mandataries. Overall, the VP parliamentary group provides 26 of the 61 members of the Federal Council. Another five belong to the Greens (with Claudia Hauschildt-Buschberger one from Upper Austria).

This means that the turquoise-green coalition has a majority in the Federal Council for the first time since it took office. Blocking of legislative decisions (with delaying effect) should not occur. The new Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg and Foreign Minister Michael Linhart (both VP) are expected to attend a round of introductions in the Federal Council today.
