Riots broke out in Leipzig on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The city still hasn’t calmed down.
According to the organizers, around 2,000 people demonstrated in Leipzig two days after the violent riots on “Day X”. “We are angry, pissed off and shocked by what happened on Saturday night and happy to finally be able to demonstrate again,” said a spokeswoman for the “Leipzig takes place” initiative.
According to her, the event was directed against the restriction of freedom of assembly and had the motto “Basic rights also apply in Leipzig”.
The participants in the demonstration wanted to move to the city center. An interim rally was planned at the police headquarters with the seat of the Leipzig police chief. The organizers called on the participants to have a peaceful course and to refrain from throwing missiles and masks. “We want to do a proper demo. Leave it alone, then we’ll get through,” it said.
