The Federal President signs the highly controversial new electoral law, but lets it be known that he would have wished for more unity in the Bundestag. For the CSU and the Left, who feel disadvantaged, this is at least a trickle to their mills.
The new law applies, but the dispute will continue. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed the hotly debated electoral law on Thursday, which is intended to reduce the size of the Bundestag. But he doesn’t seem too happy with it. The head of state sees no legal reason not to enact the law and delay it. However, he is obviously worried about the pacifying effect of the new electoral law. However, the Federal President did not want to express himself publicly.
