Czech election winners agree on coalition

The hour-long negotiations between the five parties were successful, said the chairman of the Democratic Citizens Party (ODS), Petr Fiala, on Wednesday night.

Fiala announced the signing of a coalition agreement for next Monday. Among other things, it is planned to set up a new European Ministry – the partners are thus underlining their goal of a more EU-friendly course than before under Babis. In the Czech Republic, the president has to give the order to form a government.

Milos Zeman has been in the hospital for three weeks. Zeman could delay the coalition’s inauguration further by first instructing incumbent Prime Minister Babis to form a government. Babis had lost the election and a majority under his leadership is not in sight.
