Another action by climate demonstrators in Berlin, this time in front of a luxury hotel in the city center. The climate group Last Generation focuses on people with money.
Climate protesters have blocked the main entrance of a luxury hotel in Berlin. Police officers broke up the protest at Potsdamer Platz, the police and hotel said unanimously. According to the police, around 16 members of the Last Generation climate group took part in the campaign. They sat peacefully in front of the main entrance of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, some holding up banners. The blockade was resolved after about an hour, as hotel general manager Torsten Richter told the German Press Agency.
“I see it as a peaceful protest,” he said. He had therefore waived a display of trespassing. There was no property damage. The guests were not significantly hindered. You could have entered or left the hotel through other entrances. According to the hotel manager, he invited the climate activists to take part in a regular event for the employees and to talk about the climate issue. The next meeting is planned for July, according to Richter.
The last generation had announced targeted protest actions against rich people. The group justified the climate catastrophe “primarily by the rich” and wanted to draw attention to that. Last week, climate protection demonstrators on the North Sea island of Sylt first sprayed paint on a private jet. They later sprayed paint at a five-star hotel.
