Corona vaccination: Karl Lauterbach criticizes Richard David Precht

More and more celebrities are speaking out on the subject of corona vaccination. Most recently, the philosopher Richard David Precht spoke out against immunizing children, among other things. SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach surprised his statements.

In the podcast “Lanz & Precht” with the TV presenter Markus Lanz, the philosopher Richard David Precht recently expressed himself critical of the corona vaccination, among other things. “It’s not about every German being vaccinated against the corona virus and the corona virus being out of the world next year,” says the 56-year-old. It is not the task of the state to intervene in the health status of citizens.

He also spoke out against a corona vaccination for children. He thinks it is wrong to “process their immune system, which is currently being built up, with a vaccine”. “I would never do that,” said Precht. After all, it is not clear whether the children in their mid-20s developed an autoimmune disease as a vaccine side effect. The long-term consequences have not yet been adequately researched.

Lauterbach “surprised” by Precht’s statements

SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach described the philosopher’s statements as “simply wrong” and his positions as “absurd”. “I appreciate him very much and we also know each other, that’s why I was completely surprised,” said Lauterbach with journalist Markus Feldenkirchen. He would not have expected such statements. Precisely because Precht is a thinker and has been trained accordingly in various subject areas, these statements also disappointed him.

Lauterbach also commented on the latest statements by left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht. Wagenknecht had criticized the vaccinations against the corona virus in the ARD panel discussion “Anne Will” last Sunday and had a heated debate with Lauterbach. (You can read the whole exchange of blows between Wagenknecht and Lauterbach here.) The left-wing politician campaigned for only immunizing older people against the virus. “That hurts,” said Lauterbach in the “Spiegel” top-level conversation about Wagenknecht’s statements. He values her as a politician. There are two ways to explain what they say. Either she does not know her way around and her statements are therefore without specialist knowledge. “The other possibility is she knows more, but misrepresents it.”

“2G is the silver bullet”

In view of the increasing incidence, the SPD health expert considers restrictions for unvaccinated people to be “indispensable”. “You can’t just let the fourth wave go on.” He therefore wants the federal states to have clear rules. 2G called Lauterbach the “royal route”. The regulation must be consistently introduced in pubs, restaurants, cafés and events – exactly there “where life takes place.”

In an interview with Markus Feldenkirchen, Lauterbach criticized the “ridiculous” handling of controls in restaurants. Restaurant owners do not adequately check whether the guests have been vaccinated, recovered or tested. But Lauterbach also reproached politics. “We missed telling the population early on that a booster vaccination was necessary,” he admitted. Lauterbach described the closure of the vaccination centers as a mistake. There is no reason to believe that the number of cases will decrease. The vaccination rate is particularly low among middle-aged people, while protection is decreasing in older people and booster vaccinations are only progressing slowly.
